Ford and its significant place in the Czech market for passenger cars and commercial vehicles

Over the past year, the Ford brand in the Czech Republic has recorded a significant jump, which was reflected in the increase in the number of registered vehicles to 9,732, which means a surprising increase of 18% compared to the previous year. Almost half of these vehicles sold were commercial models, with a number of 4,430 vehicles, which emphasizes Ford’s strong presence in the light commercial vehicle segment.

The best-selling work colleagues on Czech roads and in the business sector were the Transit Custom and Tourneo Custommodels, which secured 1,834 registrations in 2024. The sporty heart of the brand does not exclude the Rangerpick-up, which reigned supreme in the domestic pick-up market with 906 units. It is expected that with the arrival of the plug-in hybrid variant, the Ford Ranger will become the Czech number one, which may threaten the current king of the segment – the Toyota Hilux.

Passenger cars also play a significant role in the market. The Ford Kuga takes first place among passenger cars with 1,949 units, closely followed by the compact beast Puma , now also available in a fully electric Gen-E version. The Ford Focus shares third place with 915 registrations, although its future is uncertain with the planned end of production.Electric vehicles are becoming an increasingly important part of Ford’s offer. The Mustang Mach-E, which has a special place among fans, has significantly increased interest in electric models and can be said to have surpassed the iconic sports Mustang with an eight-cylinder engine. In total, Ford sold 359 electric vehicles, among which the electric Transit dominated, popular not only with large companies such as Czech Post or DHL.

With a view to 2025, Ford has set an ambitious goal of selling over 10,000 vehicles and moving the share of electric vehicles to around 600 units. The plans also include discounts on some models including the Tourneo Courier, Kuga, Explorer and Capri, which is intended to make it easier for customers to switch to electric and hybrid technologies.

Ford electrification: new trends and models that are changing the game in the European market

Ford in Europe is introducing a fundamental transformation of its model range with an emphasis on electric drive and digital services under the global name Model e. This new segment aims to rapidly develop electric vehicles and create online connected vehicles that respond to growing customer demands and environmental standards.

According to Ford President Jim Farley, this change is not just a matter of technology, but also the brand’s priorities in the field of sustainability and innovation. Ford Model e wants to set the pace and offer electric cars full of comfort, safety and digital features that customers expect.

By 2024, the brand is prioritizing the launch of seven new electric vehicles, including three passenger cars and four commercial vehicles. These vehicles will be produced at the brand’s plants in Cologne and Craiova, where extensive investments are being made in infrastructure and electrification.

The growing range includes, for example, the

electric Ford Puma , which is to be built in Craiova, Romania, building on the successful tradition of this compact crossover. Theelectric Transit range will also continue to expand, which is also successfully used in large logistics services and corporate fleets. The progressive plan also includes the establishment of a new battery production plant in Turkey, implemented in cooperation with SK On and Koç Holding. This project is to start producing NMC cells for electric vehicles around the middle of the decade and will make a significant contribution to the self-sufficiency and ecological footprint of European industry. The diversity of Ford’s offer on the Czech market: from traditional bestsellers to modern SUVs and electric cars

Ford has long offered a diverse portfolio of cars on the Czech market, which includes both classic models and modern SUVs, light commercial vehicles and, recently, a number of electric cars. The offer includes well-known models such as

Ford Fiesta

, Ford Focusor Ford Mondeo , which are among the stars in the passenger car segment, but also the modern Ford Kuga, Puma and Mustang. The SUV category is particularly popular on the Czech market. The Ford Kuga

represents a suitable combination of spaciousness, safety and modern technologies. The urban crossover Ford Puma attracts with its compact size and now also a fully electric version, which it tries to appeal to the younger generation and all those looking for a sustainable way of mobility. The sports icon Ford Mustang

continues to attract attention and this year it is coming to Europe with an innovative generation that is intended to be a celebration of performance and design even in the era of electromobility. Equally important is the range of commercial vehicles, where Ford offers models such as Transit, Tourneo Courier or Ranger. According to experts, thanks to its hybrid mechanics and robust construction, the Ranger is becoming an increasingly strong player in the pick-up segment, thereby increasing competition for models from brands such as Toyota, which are traditionally popular among Czech drivers. Although Dacia

holds its place in the small commercial vehicle segment, Ford continues to expand its share with modern technologies. For those interested in smaller family cars or a first car, the stable model Ford Fiesta

is still available, which, thanks to its affordable price and good fuel consumption, competes in the segment with the popular Hyundai i30. Interestingly, according to market data, the demand for vehicles with hybrid technology is increasing, which is also confirmed by Ford with its offer of hybrid versions of the Kuga and other models, thus facing competition from brands such as Hyundai and Volkswagen, whose position can be studied in more detail at Equiway.czand Volkswagen . Ford’s production strategy and investments in sustainable production in EuropeFord’s strategic steps in the field of production are increasingly directed towards sustainable and digitally advanced methods. The most striking example is the investment in production plants in Cologne and Craiova, Romania, where modern infrastructure for the production of electric vehicles and batteries is being created.

Production of the first mid-size electric crossover with a range of up to 500 km is starting in Cologne. The model will be a significant part of the Ford family and has the potential to capture a significant share of the SUV and crossover market in Europe. Investment in the plant is estimated at 46 billion crowns, which includes a new battery factory.

Romanian production in Craiova is important for Ford not only in terms of passenger cars, but also for light commercial vehicles, including the new generation of Transit Courier. Ford Otosan, a joint venture with Koç Holding, will take full control of the plant, allowing for greater use of expertise in the field of electromobility and commercial vehicles.

Ford’s joint investment with SK On and Koç Holding in Turkey promises a significant shift in the availability of high-nickel batteries for European cars, helping to reduce costs and the environmental footprint of fleet operators. This step is key to achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement and will support Ford’s ambition to become a zero-emissions brand in Europe by 2035.

Technological innovation and digital connectivity in new Ford models

Ford’s strategy is not only electrification, but also a significant increase in the quality of digital services and connectivity. The Model e represents a revolutionary approach to cars as mobile digital platforms that are always online and offer a full range of services from remote software updates to safety features and entertainment.

For example, the new generation of Ford Mustang Mach-E offers advanced assistance systems and the ability to personalize the car according to the owner’s individual preferences via a mobile application. This includes car sharing within the family, route planning with regard to charging stations, or searching for parking spaces in real time.

Digital transformation is also reflected in production, where automated processes ensure higher quality, faster introduction of new models and efficient use of resources. All this helps not only the competitiveness but also the environmental responsibility of the brand. Thanks to these innovations, Ford remains not only a traditional player in the market, but also a modern manufacturer that understands the needs of current and future customers and can quickly respond to market and technological developments.
